Should you start your own business

In today’s economy and job market, it is hard to deny that starting your own business is tempting. Having said this, it can also be intimidating and quite a daunting task for most. Here are a few reasons why starting your own business may be a good idea for you.

1. You have control: For anyone with a ‘Type –A” personality, this could be a very good things. This would mean that your ideas, concepts and decisions are your own and there is no one else to answer to. You would have the ability to create and control your own corporate culture. This is what can be overwhelming for a lot of people, but if you’re up for the challenge, this may be what you’re looking for.

2. It is a personal challenge: If you’re not feeling challenged enough in your current work and situation, starting your own business may be the challenge you’re craving. In addition to this, you never really know what to expect, since each day is something new.

3. You will love your work! More and more people are making career shifts now attempting to find the one thing they love to do. When you break it down, most people spend approximately 40 hours a week working. That is 2080 hours a year! With starting your own business, you can ensure that you are doing something you love!

4. Both risk and reward is yours: Although starting your own business can be risky both financially and emotionally, you get to reap all the rewards. Having said that, the beginning stages are most likely going to be the hardest and the riskiest. Like anything else, you get better the more you work at it. That being said, remember that the rewards are coming.

5. You can choose your team: You can either work by yourself or with a team. The best part about this is that the decision is yours. If you choose to have a team of workers, you can choose whom you work with and whom you want on that team.

6. Personal pride in your work: This is probably one of the main reasons why people choose to run their own business. It is the sense of pride you take in all the work you have done and the accomplishments you have made. It is something you can look back on knowing you put your all into it.

When it comes down to it, starting your own business is not for everyone, but if any of these reasons spark something in you, it may be something you want to consider. KKP offers plenty of resources for you to be successful when starting out:
